When to use Search vs. Recommendations

  • Search is user‑initiated and intent‑driven.

  • Recommendations are proactive and contextual.

Use Search for explicit query flows and Recommendations for discovery, recirculation, and personalization. They can complement each other on the same page.

Common use cases

  • Query completions for search bars.

  • Precomputed results for high‑traffic queries.

  • Combining search intent with recommendation context.
